  Justin Edwards, DVM
I grew up on the back of a horse near Cheyenne, Wyoming, where my father was a veterinarian. The days of my youth were spent riding the wide open spaces of that wonderful country. My family was involved in cattle ranching and chariot racing, which is where I picked up the horse habits I still have today. I attended the University of Wyoming, majoring in Biochemistry. I then earned my DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1984. We moved to Oregon in that same year and have been in Estacada since 1986. The equine ambulatory practice in Clackamas County was an instant success. Due to continued growth and demand for surgical services, we constructed the Equine Hospital in 1996. Today it is flourishing as a full-service hospital. Special interests of mine include: cosmetic wound healing, lameness in the feet and hooves, and ophthalmology. In my free time, I can be found buried in my shop, or hiking in the mountains with my wife Kay and two sons Ross and Clay.

  David Asmar, DVM
I was born and raised a "city boy" in San Juan, Puerto Rico, interested more in swimming and Scuba diving, although always fond of horses and farm life. Through high school and college, I worked as a stall cleaner at a large Paso Fino veterinary hospital on the island. That quickly progressed to a full-time position as an overnight technician, and a profound interest in veterinary medicine as a profession. I completed a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Animal Science at the University of Puerto Rico in 1999. After moving to the United States, I attended Kansas State University, where I earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2004. My desire to learn more led me and my family to Idaho, where I completed a yearlong internship, specializing in Equine surgery and medicine at the Idaho Equine Hospital. We moved to Oregon in June, 2005 and have been with Eagle Fern Equine Hospital since that time. Personal interests of mine include equine orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, advanced medicine and dentistry, and artificial insemination and stallion collection. I live in Sandy with my wife, Viviana, two young kids, Andrea and Adrián, and dog Piper.

 Shakyra Rosario, DVM
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and have been around horses all of my life. My dad loves horses and our main hobby as a family is horseback riding. The first time I fell off a horse I was only a year old! We kept our Paso Finos in the backyard of our house in the city. When I was nine years old we moved to the country where my parents fulfilled their dream of owning a farm; the farm is named Hacienda Las 4 Rosas, which means four roses for my mom and her three daughters. I completed my BS in Animal Science at the University of Puerto Rico in 1998. After completing my BS I moved to Manhattan, KS where I earned my DVM degree from Kansas State University in 2002. After vet school I performed a yearlong large animal medicine and surgery internship at University of Georgia. In August 2003 I became part of an eight veterinarian practice at the race track in Puerto Rico. In July 2007 I also started working with Paso Fino and pleasure horses doing mainly reproduction work. My areas of interest include: internal medicine, sports medicine, lameness and reproduction. Looking for a change, I interviewed at Eagle Fern Equine in June 2008 and was fortunate to join the practice in August 2008. Now I live in Sandy and so far I really like the change.

Kristen Patrick Office Manager & Technician
I was born and raised in suburban New York about sixty miles north of New York City. After high school I completed my Bachelors degree in English with a Minor in Philosophy at St. Michael's College in Vermont where I met my boyfriend, Dave. After living and working in Vermont for several years, we moved to Oregon in the fall of 1998. I met Dr. Edwards in late December 2002 at a "gelding party" at my friend's barn and the rest is history. I started at Eagle Fern as a Technician in February 2003. From the time I was about four years old I wanted to be a farmer or a veterinarian; I guess Eagle Fern is the perfect place for me. More recently I have added Office Manager to my list of responsibilities. When I'm not at the Clinic, I enjoy spending time with my own assortment of animals: horses, dogs, cats, miniature donkey and pot bellied pig. I love taking lessons with my mare "Sassy" and doing obedience and agility with my black lab cross "Tilly". Member of the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians.

Viviana Burgos Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable
I was born and raised in sunny and warm Puerto Rico. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Animal Science at the University of Puerto Rico in 2000, got married to my best friend and moved to Manhattan, Kansas where I did post-graduate work in Dairy Nutrition and Management at Kansas State University, while working at the school's dairy unit. In 2004 the family relocated to Idaho where I worked with the Melba School District as an ESL teacher and advisor to Hispanic students. Then we relocated once and for all to Sandy, Oregon. I started working with Eagle Fern Equine Hospital in the fall of 2005. Now I fill my days cooking with my husband David and daughter Andrea, playing with our new baby Adrián and dog Piper, and keeping busy doing as much outside as we can during the sunny days of Oregon.
